Education

  • Trinity College, Cambridge (BA 1844, MA 1847)
  • Took Holy Orders (deacon 1844, priest 1846)

Highlights & Accomplishments

  • Served as parish priest at Great Horkesley, Essex then at Monkland, Herefordshire (1851)
  • Succeeded to the Baronetcy (a hereditary title awarded by the British Crown) on the death of his father (1859)
  • Known to be a fine hymn writer and translator, as well as a skillful adapter of other writers’ hymns
