Introductions for Sabbath School Song Service (based on specific lesson quarterlies):
This seems to be one of those spirituals created in later years, since it does not appear in any of the staandward collections of spirituals. The first printing in a songbook was in the 1956 The Youth Hymnary, compiled by Lester Hostetler, Newton, Kansas, for the General Conference of Menonites. The words of this prayerful song recall 1 John 2:6, “He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.” Also, “Though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death… thou art with me” (Ps. 23:4).
Eurydice Osterman (1950-; see SDAH 536), a teacher at Oakwood College, Huntsville, Alabama, was requested by Alma Blackmon, a member of the Hymnal Committee for SDAH, to make this spiritual arrangement. Her original tune in SDAH is No. 536, HENISEE.
