This response was written by Pearl Waggoner Howard. It summarizes 119:133). Waggoner was born on February 27, 1885, at Oakland, California, the daughter of E. J. Waggoner. She grew up in London, England, where her father, a noted Seventh-day Adventist writer, was editor of the denominational magazine Present Truth. She returned to the United States and graduated in the first nursing class of the Hinsdale (Illinois) Sanitarium. She did postgraduate work at the Washington Sanitarium for one year and in 1916 married Ellis P. Howard. They served as missionaries in Peru, then in Ecuador, and finally in Central America, returning to the United States in 1940. She was the author of many poems, some of which were written in the woods, where she received inspiration. She died in Winterhaven, California, on July 9, 1969.
The tune BENEDICTION was composed by Stanley Ledington (1889- the words of this hymn, for which it was written. Ledington also composed 1974; see SDAH 398), who also was a Seventh-day Adventist. It is named for SDAH 398, COMMUNION.”
