SDAH 361: Hark! ‘Tis the Shepherd’s Voice I Hear

CHRISTIAN CHURCH >> Mission of the church

SDAH 361

Hark! ’tis the Shepherd’s voice I hear,
Out in the desert dark and drear,
Calling the sheep who’ve gone astray,
Far from the Shepherd’s fold away.

Text
Text

1
Hark! ’tis the Shepherd’s voice I hear,
Out in the desert dark and drear,
Calling the sheep who’ve gone astray,
Far from the Shepherd’s fold away.

Refrain
Bring them in, Bring them in,
Bring them in from the fields of sin;
Bring them in, Bring them in,
Bring the wanderers to Jesus.

2
Who’ll go and help the Shepherd kind,
Help Him the wandering ones to find?
Who’ll bring them back into the fold,
Where they’ll be sheltered from the cold?

3
Out in the desert hear their cry,
Out on the mountain wild and high,
Hark! ’tis the Master speaks to thee,
“Go, find My sheep where ‘er they be.”

Notes

Everyone must know for himself that he is a sinner and that he is lost. But above those is that we have a Savior who have made the provisions needed for us to repent and be able to confess our sins and be forgiven. (Lesson 10, 2nd Quarter 2021 – Tuesday, Old and New Covenants, 6/01/2021)

All we like sheep have gone astray. We have gone everyone to our own way. Listen carefully. God is calling us to be with Him in His fold of safety. (Lesson 11, 2nd Quarter 2021 -Sunday, Relationships, 6/6/2021)

We have no information about Alexcenah Thomas. The hymn tells of Jesus the good shepherd seeking the lost sheep, and the obligation of the sheep that are found to follow His example and seek others who are lost.

The tune, sometimes known as BRING THEM IN, was composed by William Augustine Ogden (1841- 1897 see Biographies), and published in Missionary Songs for missionary societies, 1880, in New York.
