SDAH 688: Surely, Surely

SENTENCES & RESPONSES

SDAH 688

Surely, surely the Lord has been here,
Surely angels still linger near;
I hear music soft on my ear,
I feel His Spirit,
I have no fear.

Introductions for Sabbath School Song Service (based on specific lesson quarterlies):

Born November 20, 1926, into a family of 14 children, at an early age Eleanor Wright showed a special gift for music. Though she had no formal training, her musicianship and skill at the piano continued to grow naturally, with a little help from her brother-in-law, Dale Wright, who taught her to play guitar chords on the piano. Married to Harold Wright at age 18, her first public performance was with the Wright Family Ensemble. Later her famous Blend-Wright Trio was heard in concerts all over the United States and in Bermuda and Switzerland. Eleanor is now an accomplished professional singer, composer, pianist, and arranger, with some 200 songs to her credit. Her work includes anthems, children’s songs, gospel songs, and wedding songs, many of which have been recorded by a variety of well-known artists. As a successful piano teacher for children, she developed, wrote, and illustrated the Keyboard Cousins Method of instruction. One of her songs, “Hallelujah, Home at Last,” was recorded by Del Delker, soloist with the Voice of Prophecy. As a recording artist Eleanor has been affiliated with Chapel Records and Savoy Recordings. Lately she has started her own music company with her own Eleanor Wright recording label. Besides being the mother of six children and grandmother of nine, she finds great joy in gourmet cooking, painting, interior decorating, gardening, and shortwave radio. But her strength and creativity come from a commitment to serve and honor God above all else.

She has been in demand as a speaker for seminars on music and the church, and served on the advisory committee of 90 people who assisted by correspondence the SDAH Committee. Eleanor’s music has been published by Manna Music, Screen Gems, and Arioso Music.

From her home in Germantown, Ohio, Eleanor continues to write and sing and speak, witnessing for the Lord at every opportunity. After some 40 years of dedicated service to the ministry of music, her excitement is as keen as if her work were just beginning. Her vision of reaching the world with the love of God in song is as vivid as ever.
