CHRISTIAN HOME >> LOVE IN THE HOME
SDAH 652
There is beauty all around, When there’s love at home;
There is joy in every sound, When there’s love at home.
Peace and plenty here abide, Smiling fair on every side;
Time doth softly, sweetly glide, When there’s love at home.

Introductions for Sabbath School Song Service (based on specific lesson quarterlies):
This is one of several hymns the committee “brought back” from the much-loved Christ in Song, published by F.E. Belden in 1900 and 1908. Both words and music were written by James H. McNaughton, one of those talented people about whom we know virtually nothing. He really captured the essence of how to have peace around the house — just how plenty of love! The Mormons have made good use of this hymn in their emphasis on the value of the family unit in stabilizing society.
The hymn was first printed in the American Sunday School Hymnbook, published in Philadelphia by the American Sunday School Union in 1860. More than 100 hymnals included it from that year to 1973.
One Scripture reference seems to sum up the message of this hymn is John 13:35: “By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”

Text
1
There is beauty all around, When there’s love at home;
There is joy in every sound, When there’s love at home.
Peace and plenty here abide, Smiling fair on every side;
Time doth softly, sweetly glide, When there’s love at home.
Refrain
Love at home, love at home;
Time doth softly, sweetly glide,
When there’s love at home.
2
Kindly heaven smiles above, When there’s love at home;
All the earth is fill’d with love, When there’s love at home.
Sweeter sings the brooklet by, Brighter beams the azure sky;
O, there’s One who smiles on high When there’s love at home.
3
Jesus, make me wholly Thine, Then there’s love at home;
May Thy sacrifice be mine, Then there’s love at home.
Safely from all harm I’ll rest, With no sinful care distress’d,
Thro’ Thy tender mercy blessed, When there’s love at home.
