Introductions for Sabbath School Song Service (based on specific lesson quarterlies):
This is one of six hymns in SDAH that can be sung as a canon, or round (see Index of Canons, SDAH, p. 808). It is crafted in a most charming way to tell about how nature reflects God’s love. Most important, it is a prayer that our thoughts and actions might reflect our unison with Christ the Creator.
Fern Lazicki was born May 4, 1916, in Detroit. She lived for 12 years in upper Michigan before her Finnish-Polish family settled in southern California. Her hymn texts have been written mostly for her brother, composer Dale Wood. Together they collaborated to create “Every Flower That Grows” as a choral anthem for children. Titled “A Hymn of Youth,” the anthem was published by Augsburg Publishing House, Minneapolis, in 1967. Mrs. Lazicki is the mother of six children, four of whom are now serving in full-time Christian ministry. Her son Stephen, also an author of many anthem texts, is a Lutheran missionary in Cameroon, West Africa. At present, Fern assists her husband, Ted, in writing children’s stories and plays for religious publications.
For LAUREL and Dale Wood (1934- ) see SDAH 42. Wood also wrote EDEN CHURCH, SDAH 235.

Text
1
Every flow’r that grows, Every brook that flows,
Tell of beauty God has giv’n for me:
Throughout my life may beauty be
Deep within a heart from sin set free.
2
Gracious Lord above, Looking down in love,
Guide my thoughts, my life, in my walk with Thee,
That day by day the world may see
Christ, the Lord and Savior, lives in me.
3
All my earthly days, I shall sing and praise
God the Father, Spirit, and Christ with the Son.
Grant faith when life on earth is done,
I shall sing with those whose rest is won.
