Hymn Spotlight: Redeemed!
Frances Jane Crosby penned this triumphant hymn drawing from Lamentations 3:58—“O Lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.” Originally with five stanzas, this version features the first, second, and fifth, with stanzas three and four appearing in the following hymn, SDAH 338. The joyful tune by William James Kirkpatrick was first published in Songs of Redeeming Love in 1882. With confident assurance and tender affection, the lyrics echo the believer’s joy in being redeemed through Christ. It’s a song of identity—one who is redeemed, loved, and forever His.

Introductions for Sabbath School Song Service (based on specific lesson quarterlies):
These words were written by Frances Jane Crosby (1820-1915; see Biographies) based on Lamentation 3:58: “O lord, thou hast pleaded the causes of my soul; thou hast redeemed my life.” There were five stanzas in the original; this hymn has No. 1,2 and 5. Stanzas 3 and 4 will be found as stanzas 2 and 3 in the next hymn, SDAH 338.
The tune was composed by William James Kirkpatrick (1838-1921; see Biographies), and appears in his Songs of Redeeming Love, published in 1882 by him and three collaborators.
The last stanza has the word “saints” substituted for the original two syllable word “spirits,” even though the latter is a direct quotation from “the spirits of just men made perfect” (Heb. 12:23).

Text
1
Redeemed, how I love to proclaim it!
Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
Redeemed through His infinite mercy,
His child and forever I am.
Refrain
Redeemed, redeemed,
Redeemed by the blood of the Lamb;
Redeemed, redeemed,
His child and forever I am.
2
Redeemed, and so happy in Jesus,
No language my rapture can tell;
I know that the light of His presence
With me doth continually dwell.
3
I know there’s a crown that is waiting
In yonder bright mansion for me;
And soon, with the spirit made perfect,
At home with the Lord I shall be.
