One of my favorite blog authors, Ashley Danyew, wrote: “Reflection is vital to learning, growing, and success. It works hand-in-hand with action, a constant cycle of doing followed by observing and evaluating our work, our relationships, and the choices we make…Reflection is how we learn and grow as teachers, directors, musicians.”
I I totally agree!
Most people like to reflect and look back at the end of the year. Hence, the backbone of many new years’ resolutions. But a monthly, even a daily reflection isn’t so bad either. How can we do it better next month or tomorrow? That way, we can look back at a more fruitful and successful year.
Danyew suggested a simple 5-minute exercise which she guarantees people to have “more clarity, a better perspective, and a renewed sense of motivation to dive back into work.”
So I tried it, and she’s right!
All you need to do is to ask these four questions to yourself and answer as honestly as possible:
– What’s working well? What are you proud of?
– What’s not working? What can you improve?
Last year, I released a very short 5-question survey which was intended to guide me to know what to write about the most. It gave me a boost to see what readers are interested in. Not only that, but it helped me to navigate and tackle this big topic about music ministry, one post at a time.
This year, in lieu of Hymns for Worship’s one-year existence, I’m doing that again. However, I want to be more detailed and conscious about who I’m serving. I want to touch points that deeply resonate with you. I want each post article to be tailor-made according to your needs.
So pull up a chair and tell me: How can I serve you better?
Would you be willing to give me a few minutes of your time today? I’d love to hear from you. Please leave your comments below!
